Sections

Configure Strata sections and their blocks.

Sections are the configurable content areas inside a Shopify template. Add, reorder, hide, or remove them in the Theme Editor without changing theme code.

Add a section

The Add section picker open in the Theme Editor with a search field and a list of sections.

Select Add section under a group, then choose a section.

Add a section to a template
  1. Open the Theme EditorFrom Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Edit theme.
  2. Choose the templateUse the page selector to open the template you want to edit.
  3. Add the sectionChoose Add section, then select the Strata section that matches the content purpose.
  4. Build and previewAdd its content and blocks, save, and review the result at desktop and mobile sizes.

Before using a section

Choose by purpose, then shape the presentation
Strata sections use modes and blocks so one section can support several related layouts.
  • Start with the content taskChoose a section for its purpose, not only its initial appearance.
  • Check its modesBefore adding a similar section, see whether the selected section already provides the presentation you need.
  • Prepare the mediaUse the aspect ratio and media guidance in the section guide.
  • Keep content accessibleUse logical headings, meaningful image alt text, and a block order that still works on a narrow screen.

Fixed Theme Editor areas

These areas belong to global section groups rather than the normal Add section catalog.

Header group
Configure the Announcement bar and Header.
Overlay group
Configure Newsletter popup, Cart drawer, Search drawer, Message popup, and Age verifier.
Footer group
Configure the Footer and add suitable supporting sections above it.

Collections grid belongs to the Collection list template and is not an addable section.

Addable sections

Use these categories to find the section that matches the content you want to create.

Media
Lead with images, video, comparison, or movement.
Content
Explain, introduce, compare, or tell a story.
Products and collections
Build product discovery and merchandising paths.
Forms and custom content
Collect customer details or add a custom content surface.

Pickup availability is part of the Product page rather than a standalone section. Group and Text are reusable Theme blocks rather than standalone sections.
