Age verifier
Plan an age-confirmation overlay for stores that must restrict access by age.
The Age verifier asks a visitor to confirm eligibility before entering the storefront. It is intended for stores with a genuine legal or policy requirement for age-gated access.
Current availability
The current saved Overlay group contains Newsletter popup, Cart drawer, Search drawer, and Message popup. Age verifier is not in that saved order. This page records the schema for future acceptance so merchants can review the intended controls without mistaking the page for proof that the feature is active.
Add or open this feature after acceptance
Only after the Age verifier has been accepted in the Theme Editor should you open Online Store > Themes > Customize, select the Overlay group, and add or open Age verifier. Confirm that it is present in the saved group before publishing.
Features
The section's current schema explains that visitors must confirm before accessing the storefront and that confirmation is saved only in their browser.
Remember confirmed visitors
Stores a successful confirmation for the visitor. Disable it when every visit must ask again; enable it when a returning visitor should not be interrupted during the configured period.
Remember for
Sets the remembered period from 1–90 d in 1 d steps. This setting is shown only when Remember confirmed visitors is enabled. It is a browser convenience, not a replacement for legal compliance, identity verification, or a server-side record.
Content
Eyebrow
Adds the short context line above the question.
Heading
Sets the main confirmation question.
Text
Explains the age requirement in plain language. State the relevant jurisdiction or policy only when it is accurate for the store's markets.
Confirm button
Sets the action that lets an eligible visitor enter the storefront.
Decline button
Sets the action for a visitor who cannot or does not want to confirm.
Declined message
After a visitor declines, the verifier can show a separate state:
- Eyebrow — context for restricted access.
- Heading — the main declined message.
- Text — the explanation for why access is restricted.
- Exit link — optional destination for leaving the storefront. If no URL is selected, the exit button is hidden, but the visitor still cannot access the store.
- Exit button — label for the exit link.
- Return button — label for returning to the confirmation view.
Keep this state clear and respectful. Do not imply that pressing Return changes eligibility.

State matrix for final acceptance
| State | Expected merchant-visible purpose |
|---|---|
| First visit with no remembered confirmation | Show the confirmation question. |
| Visitor confirms | Allow entry and, when enabled, remember it in that browser for the selected period. |
| Visitor declines | Show the Declined message and keep storefront access restricted. |
| Exit link is blank | Hide the exit button while retaining the restricted state. |
| Remember setting is off | Ask again rather than using a stored confirmation. |
These states require a fresh accepted browser fixture before this guide can be promoted from wait status.
Accessibility and policy
Use explicit labels for both choices, explain the requirement in Text, and ensure the denied state remains understandable without motion or color. Confirm that the store's age policy, markets, and legal review support the wording before enabling the feature.
