Overview
Understand Strata’s fixed newsletter, cart, search, message, and age-gate surfaces.
The Overlay group contains storefront surfaces that appear above the current page rather than taking a normal place in the template flow. The current saved order is Newsletter popup, Cart drawer, Search drawer, then Message popup.
Current saved overlays
- Newsletter popup for timed or visit-based email capture.
- Cart drawer for the off-canvas cart experience.
- Search drawer for predictive search and featured links.
- Message popup for a configurable storefront notice and action.
Age verifier has a current section schema but is not present in the saved Overlay group. Treat its guide as a verification record until a matching accepted Theme Editor instance confirms its placement and behavior.
Shared behavior to review
- Opening an overlay should move focus into it and closing it should return focus to the control that opened it.
- The page behind a modal drawer or popup should not remain accidentally interactive.
- Escape, close controls, keyboard navigation, and touch scrolling must remain available.
- Global Appearance and spacing can affect blur and shared surfaces.
- Global Animation can reduce drawer movement, while the visitor’s reduced-motion preference has priority.
- Test empty, loading, success, error, and unavailable states only where the individual overlay supports them.
Before publishing
- Check overlays together so two timed surfaces do not compete for attention.
- Verify desktop and mobile geometry, long text, form errors, focus order, and close behavior.
- Use approved fixture data; never capture customers, orders, account details, admin URLs, or preview tokens.

The saved Overlay order comes from the current group file. Age verifier still requires an accepted instance, and final visual or interaction claims remain marked in each overlay guide.
